NBA Game Summary - Portland at Minnesota
(Tuesday, November 14th)
Final Score: Minnesota 101, Portland 89
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Kevin Garnett had a solid all-around game with 20 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five blocked shots to pace Minnesota to a convincing 101-89 win over Portland.
Garnett also had three steals before fouling out with 1:10 remaining, as the Timberwolves snapped a four-game skid. Ricky Davis led the way for Minnesota with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, and Mike James added 15 points.
"We came out aggressive; it's totally different from the Orlando game," Garnett said, referring to the team's 11-point home loss Saturday night. "We weren't happy about that game at all. We practiced to put forth an effort. We started off attacking, so tonight was the first example of that."
Zach Randolph had 26 points and nine rebounds to pace the Trail Blazers, who have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.
"We came out slow and we can't do that, especially against good teams," Randolph said. "We shoot ourselves in the head."
Juan Dixon tallied 15 points for Portland, which received bad news before the game. Forward Darius Miles had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season.
The Timberwolves started quickly by outscoring the Blazers 30-11 in the opening quarter. Minnesota scored the first 10 points of the game, with Garnett's turnaround jumper capping the spurt.
A Davis driving layup made it 14-1 and the Blazers never recovered.
Troy Hudson opened the second quarter with a three-pointer for the Timberwolves, who led 52-34 at the half. Craig Smith's layup extended the margin to 62-36 and it was a rout until the Blazers made it respectable in the fourth.
Mark Madsen's tip-in ended the third with the Timberwolves ahead 78-60. Portland got as close as nine points, the last time at 91-82 on a jumper by Randolph with 3:35 remaining.
However, Davis and Trenton Hassell hit back-to-back jumpers for the Timberwolves to end any chance of a Portland comeback.
Minnesota outrebounded the Blazers, 50-31...Blazers guard Sergio Rodriguez had eight assists.
