NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Dallas

(Thursday, January 18th)

Final Score: Dallas 114, LA Lakers 95

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Josh Howard scored 29 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Dallas crushed Los Angeles, 114-95, at the American Airlines Center.

Dirk Nowitzki added 27 points and 10 boards for the Southwest Division- leading Mavericks, who won their sixth straight game and for the 19th time in 20 attempts. Devean George chipped in with 14 points while Jason Terry finished with 12 points and 13 assists.

"I thought everybody did a solid job tonight," said Terry. "The bench played very well. It was a good win. Now we've got to go on the road and take care of some business."

Kobe Bryant tallied 26 points and dished off five assists for the Lakers, who lost for the first time in four games. Rookie Jordan Farmar contributed 17 points off the bench for Los Angeles.

Los Angeles held a slim 28-26 edge after the opening 12 minutes but the Mavericks rebounded with a strong second quarter to take control of the game.

Dallas outscored the Lakers 34-20 in the frame to take a 60-48 lead at intermission.

The Mavs then ran away with things in third. Consecutive behind the back passes by Terry ignited the crowd and led to easy lay-ins midway through the third quarter. Then, Howard drained a three from the right wing to make it an 82-57 game with 5:20 left in the frame.

The Lakers managed to cut the margin to 17 points, 104-87, when Sasha Vujacic connected on a jumper with 5:34 remaining in the game.

Dallas quickly responded with eight straight points over the next 2 1/2 minutes, and the burst was capped by a Nowitzki jumper to make it 112-87.

The Mavs coasted to the finish line from there.

"We have been getting the feel of teams," said George. "Teams have been playing us well early on but I think we make our adjustment and once we buckle down and start trusting our system, we start running away with games."
