Final Score: Detroit 97, LA Lakers 83
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Tayshaun Prince scored 18 of his career- high tying 31 points in the third quarter as Detroit defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 97-83, at the Staples Center.
Prince also had seven rebounds while Chauncey Billups added 21 points and nine assists for the Pistons, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Rasheed Wallace donated 15 points and seven rebounds in the win.
"Lindsey (Hunter) got some turnovers and I got some easy baskets," said Prince. "They doubled Rasheed and I had some easy jumpers. It was one of those nights that everything went well for us."
Kobe Bryant had just two points through the first three quarters before netting another 17 in the fourth for the Lakers, who have lost two straight.
Lamar Odom added 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the Lakers' first home loss of the season. LA had captured its first three games of the season at the Staples Center.
With the scored tied at 8-8, a Prince three-pointer followed by back-to-back triples from Billups that sandwiched an Andrew Bynum layup put Detroit ahead by seven.
Two free throws by Billups put the Pistons ahead 19-10 with 5:16 remaining in the first as Detroit rolled into the second with a 27-21 lead.
A Brian Cook jumper in the second put the Lakers ahead 30-29, but the Pistons countered with seven straight to take a six-point edge. The Pistons led 45-37 at the half.
Detroit created distance in the third as a Prince basket with just over six minutes remaining capped an 8-2 burst and put the Pistons ahead 57-43. A Prince three-pointer later stretched that lead to 63-45.
Another three by Prince put Detroit ahead 70-49 with just under two minutes to go in third, but Odom hit back-to-back treys to pull the Lakers to within 70-55 heading into the fourth.
Six straight points for Detroit in the fourth gave the Pistons a 85-62 with 6:13 remaining.
Los Angeles made things interesting at that point as six straight points by Bryant started a 12-2 Lakers run that made it a 87-74 deficit with 3:56 remaining.
