Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Allen Iverson posted 32 points and nine assists, as the Denver Nuggets downed the division-rival Portland Trail Blazers, 109-93, at The Rose Garden.
Steve Blake netted a career-high 25 points for the Nuggets, who have won just two of their last nine games. Denver is just 4-8 since acquiring Iverson from Philadelphia last month. J.R. Smith scored 13 points and Nene added 12. Marcus Camby grabbed 14 rebounds.
Denver is still anticipating the return of star forward Carmelo Anthony, who is serving a 15- game suspension for his participation in the infamous brawl with the New York Knicks in December. Anthony, who is averaging a league-best 31.6 points per game, is expected to return January 22 versus the Memphis Grizzlies.
Sergio Rodriguez scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who were missing guard Jarrett Jack because of a concussion suffered in a car accident Friday morning while pulling into the team's practice facility.
Juan Dixon scored 15 points and Martell Webster had 12. Jamaal Magloire added 11 points off the bench, which outscored the Portland starters, 73-20.
Denver exploded for a 31-19 first-quarter lead, but got outscored 37-18 in the second to trail 56-49 at halftime.
The Nuggets went on an 18-0 run to start the third capped by a pair of Blake threes, the latter of which occurred with 7:12 remaining, and the Nuggets staked a 90-73 advantage heading into the final stanza.
This tilt between Denver and Portland was the first of the 2006-07 campaign...The Nuggets have won eight in a row, 12 of 13 and 15 of the last 18 meetings with the Blazers...The Nuggets have won four straight and six of their last seven games at The Rose Garden.
