NBA Game Summary - Utah at Boston
(Friday, November 10th)
Final Score: Utah 107, Boston 100
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Deron Williams had 26 points and 14 assists to pace Utah to a 107-100 win over Boston, as the Jazz avoided blowing a 12-point lead in the final quarter to win for the fifth time in six games to begin the season.
Carlos Boozer tallied 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Jazz, who snapped a four-game skid versus the Celtics. Mehmet Okur had 23 points for Utah, which shot 53.2 percent from the field.
"We got hot at the right time," Williams said. "Our offense was clicking. We ran some good plays and we executed and the ball was going in the basket. We were also getting out into transition."
Celtics point guard Sebastian Telfair left the game in the first quarter due to shortness of breath and was taken to New England Baptist Hospital for precautionary measures.
Telfair was diagnosed with bronchospasm, which is a difficulty in breathing caused by a sudden constriction of the muscles in the walls of the bronchioles. Telfair was released from the hospital and is expected to make the trip to Cleveland with the team, but it will be up to the Celtics team doctors to clear him to play Saturday night.
Paul Pierce led Boston with 30 points and nine rebounds. Wally Szczerbiak added 14 points for the Celtics, who fell to 1-4 on the season.
"They came out aggressive in the third quarter and we came out flat," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "No excuse for that. We got back in it with going extremely small and speeding up the game. We had ample times down the stretch."
A Pierce three-pointer tied the game at 56 early in the third, but the Jazz embarked on a 15-0 spurt. Andrei Kirilenko's layup made it 71-56 with 6:48 remaining in the quarter.
"We were getting into the open court a few times and we got some easy baskets," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "We made shots in that stretch."
The Celtics faced an uphill battle the remainder of the game, although they almost pulled off the comeback.
"We put so much pressure on our offense," Pierce said. "When we don't get stops we almost come down and have to score every time."
Boston trailed 82-70 going into the fourth, but rallied. An 8-1 spurt brought The Celtics within 92-89 following a Delonte West three-pointer with 5:09 left. Their last three-point deficit came at 101-98 with 1:19 left following a layup by Ryan Gomes, but Okur hit a free throw, and after Pierce missed a layup, Williams hit two foul shots with 28.6 seconds remaining.
The Celtics led 31-27 after one quarter before the Jazz went ahead 52-48 at the half.
Two Celtic fans walked away with $7,777 after making a three-point shot in a contest during the game...Rajon Rondo had 13 points in relief of Telfair, while Gomes ended with 11 points. West and Kendrick Perkins each had 10 for Boston...Williams went 10-of-15 from the field.
