NBA Game Summary - New Orleans/Oklahoma City at Golden State

(Thursday, November 9th)

Final Score: Golden State 121, New Orleans/Oklahoma City 116

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Baron Davis poured in 36 points and dished out nine assists as Golden State beat New Orleans/Oklahoma City, 121-116, to hand the Hornets their first loss of the season.

Monta Ellis had 21 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter and Troy Murphy added 20 points and six rebounds for the Warriors, who were playing the finale of a home-and-home set with the Hornets.

Mickael Pietrus contributed 18 points for Golden State, which also began a season-long seven-game homestand.

Chris Paul had a career-high 34 points and 10 assists for the Hornets, who were off to the first 4-0 start in franchise history.

David West had 21 points while Peja Stojakovic added 18 for New Orleans/Oklahoma City, which has lost on five of their last seven trips to Golden State.

Holding just a one point lead at halftime, the Warriors came out strong to start the third quarter, scoring six straight points to take a 64-57 lead on Davis' dunk.

Then, with the lead down to five with just over a minute left in the quarter, Ellis converted two-of-three free throws and Davis, a former Hornet, drained a turnaround jumper as Golden State took a 92-83 lead into the fourth quarter.

Murphy led the charge in the third quarter for the Warriors, scoring nine of his 20 points, while Ellis contributed eight of his 21.

The Hornets didn't go down easily as Stojakovic drained a three-pointer to spark a late 9-2 run that brought New Orleans/Oklahoma City within three points. Paul converted a three-point play to make it a 114-111 game with just 30 seconds left to play.

Davis then hit on 3-of-4 shots from the foul line to extend Golden State's lead to six with 18 seconds left.

The Warriors then inexplicably helped out the Hornets as Mike Dunleavy fouled Bobby Jackson, sending him to the free throw line. Jackson dropped in his first attempt before missing his second. West collected the rebound and this time Murphy committed the foul, sending West to the line.

West converted both of his attempts to make it 117-114 with 14 seconds remaining, but Murphy and Matt Barnes knocked down their free throws to finally put the game away.

In a high-scoring opening quarter, Davis outscored Paul 13-12, but the Hornets held a slim 35-34 at the end of the first. Golden State then outscored the Hornets 24-22 in the second quarter and took a 58-57 lead into the break.
