NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Denver

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Shelden Williams hit the winning two free throws with 5.4 seconds left, as the Atlanta Hawks edged the Denver Nuggets, 98-96, at the Pepsi Center.
J.R. Smith converted 1-of-2 free throws with 50.8 seconds left, and Williams gathered the offensive rebound. Andre Miller forced a jump ball, off of which Salim Stoudamire immediately scored with a goaltending violation off a fastbreak.
Marcus Camby then fouled Williams with 5.4 seconds on the clock, and he converted both for a two-point Atlanta lead with a final chance for Denver. Miller caught the inbound pass, drove across the lane, but missed a running layup to seal the win for Atlanta.
Joe Johnson scored 27 points for the Hawks, who have split their last four. Stoudamire netted 21 points and Tyronn Lue had 16. Josh Smith added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony posted 24 points and seven rebounds for the Nuggets, who have also split their last four. J.R. Smith scored 12 points, while Camby and Yakhouba Diawara added 11. Miller contributed 10 points and nine assists.
"It's a huge win," said Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. "Denver is a well- coached team with talent. This is a big win for our team and I'm just proud of our locker room."
Denver closed the third on a 23-7 run capped by a three drained by Diawara with 4.5 seconds left and led 75-61 heading into the fourth.
Atlanta got back into it courtesy of a 13-0 spurt capped by a Johnson layup with 6:09 remaining for an 88-87 deficit.
"It hurts," said Nuggets head coach George Karl. "It's painful to give a game away."
Both teams scored 24 in the first and Atlanta outscored Denver by four in the second for a 48-44 halftime lead.
This was the first of two meetings this season between the clubs. The Hawks are scheduled to host the Nuggets on December 12th at Philips Arena...Atlanta had a two-game losing streak snapped after winning its last three at Denver.
