NBA Game Summary - LA Clippers at New Orleans/Oklahoma City

(Monday, January 8th)

Final Score: LA Clippers 100, New Orleans/Oklahoma City 90

Oklahoma City, OK (Sports Network) - Sam Cassell returned to the Clippers lineup and scored a game-high 31 points to lead Los Angeles over the Hornets, 100-90, at the Ford Center.

Cassell missed the last eight games with a left foot injury. He did not start this contest, but played over 35 minutes and hit 11-of-23 shots to record his second-best scoring output of the season.

"You can't be afraid to win," said Cassell. "My teammates, they know if I'm open it doesn't matter how much time is on the clock. I'm not afraid to shoot the basketball. If you are open hit the shot."

Cuttino Mobley added 20 points and Elton Brand had 18 points and 12 boards for the Clippers, who ended a two-game slide and improved to 2-3 on their current six-game road trip that ends in Minnesota on Wednesday.

Desmond Mason had 28 points to lead the Hornets, who have dropped five straight. Tyson Chandler had 13 points and 13 boards as the Hornets ended a four-game homestand winless.

Down 73-63 late in the third quarter, the Clippers began to get back into the game, scoring the final nine points of the stanza to go into the fourth down just 73-72. Then, tallying 10 of the first 14 of the fourth to complete a 19-4 run that gave LA the lead for good. Thomas hit a pair of threes during the surge. His first ended the third quarter and his second capped the run, giving the Clippers an 82-77 lead.

Mason later drew the Hornets within 84-80 with a free throw just over five minutes into the final quarter, but the Clippers scored 13 of the next 17 points and cruised to the final buzzer.

Rasual Butler and Devin Brown each had 14 points for the Hornets, who led 26-15 after one quarter and 51-49 going into halftime.

"Down the stretch we are getting way too many turnovers and not enough shots up," said Chandler. "That is limiting our chances."
