Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Sasha Vujacic scored a career-best 16 points and hit a trio of three-pointers in the final quarter, as the Lakers ended Dallas' 13-game winning streak with a thrilling 101-98 triumph at the Staples Center.
Vujacic ended 6-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and Kobe Bryant tallied 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Los Angeles. Luke Walton ended with 21 points for Los Angeles, which became Dallas' first victim on the Mavs' 13-game surge on December 13 in Texas.
Ronny Turiaf had 13 points and Smush Parker scored 11, and came up with a huge block in the final seconds for the Lakers, who tied a season-high with their fourth consecutive win.
It also marked Phil Jackson's 900th career NBA win, the fastest to reach that mark in league history.
"Nine hundred wins is remarkable," Bryant said. "You can't even fathom 900. We're very lucky as a team to be able to share this moment with him."
Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points and 13 rebounds for the Mavericks, whose 13-game run was one shy of a franchise-record, set at the start of the 2002-03 campaign.
"We've got some good stuff on film to watch," Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said. "That fourth quarter is going to make us all miserable, but we are going to learn from it and come back."
Bryant's two free throws boosted the Lakers to a 97-96 lead with 55.9 seconds remaining, LA's first advantage since the second quarter.
Nowitzki's driving layup boosted the Mavs to a the lead with 41.9 seconds left, but Vujacic banged in a three from the left wing for a 100-98 LA edge with 28.5 seconds to go. Vujacic was able to get open after Bryant was triple- teamed on the other side.
"All I had to do that point is be open on the other side," Vujacic said. "I knew my teammates would find me. It feels great to get the game-winning shot."
Jason Terry then drove to the hoop for a potential tying layup, but Parker came up with a huge block, and Walton made one free throw with 10.6 seconds showing.
Former Laker Devean George then missed a potential tying three-pointer from the top of the arc, and Bryant grabbed the rebound and dribbled out the clock.
Each team led by as many as 11, with LA's coming at 23-12 in the first quarter and Dallas' coming in the third at 69-58. It was 27-21 in favor of the home team after the first 12 minutes, but Dallas led 51-48 at the half and 77-68 going into the fourth.
Nowitzki's two free throws expanded the lead to 88-81 midway through the final quarter, but Walton's two free throws closed the gap to 90-88.
Josh Howard had 20 points, while Jerry Stackhouse scored 14 for the Mavs....Devin Harris and Terry each had 12 points for Dallas, which committed just nine turnovers, four less than the Lakers...LA shot 54.9 percent from the field, while Dallas ended at a 42.2 percent clip...Jackson's career record is 900-364. Former Laker coach Pat Riley held the previous mark to fastest 900 wins, doing it in 1,278 games.
