NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Memphis
(Friday, November 3rd)
Final Score: Memphis 96, Charlotte 83
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Mike Miller scored 21 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a stunning 96-83 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats. Miller shot 8-for-13 from the field, including 5-for-7 from behind the three-point line to lead Memphis to its first win of the young season.
Adam Morrison led the Bobcats with 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including 3-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Morrison scored all of his 21 in the first three quarters as Charlotte fell to 0-2 on the season.
Miller's 21 fourth-quarter points stood in stark opposition to Morrison's scoreless fourth. Morrison was unable to break through the cover Memphis' Dahntay Jones provided in the fourth quarter.
Miller keyed a 20-2 run in the fourth that erased a 12-point Bobcat lead and gave the Grizzlies the lead for good. Memphis outscored Charlotte 36-13 in the fourth quarter.
Charlotte had taken control of the game in the third quarter, thanks largely to Morrison and Brevin Knight on the offensive end. Knight finished with 12 points and seven assists before fouling out.
Knight's jump shot at 11:46 of the fourth quarter was the last field goal scored by a Bobcat for over three minutes, a span in which the Charlotte lead would shrink from 12 to one. At the time, Knight's shot made it 72-60.
Memphis erased the deficit with 13 straight points, including consecutive three-pointers from Miller. A layup by Chucky Atkins with 8:48 left gave Memphis a 73-72 lead.
Charlotte briefly retook the lead on a Jake Voskuhl basket, but a jump shot from Jones gave the Grizzlies the lead for good with 7:52 left.
Hakim Warrick added 15 points and six rebounds for the Grizzlies.
Both teams came out ice-cold, with Sean May scoring the game's first points at 9:21 of the first quarter. Memphis' Eddie Jones quickly heated up, ripping off six points to lead a 10-2 run to give the Grizzlies a 17-7 lead at 4:36 of the first quarter.
Eddie Jones finished with 10 points on the night.
Charlotte fought back, taking a 37-31 lead at 5:19 of the second quarter after two dunks by Emeka Okafor. The Bobcats took a 47-44 lead into halftime.
Lawrence Roberts pulled down 11 rebounds and scored nine for Memphis.
Miller's 21-point fourth quarter was one shy of a Memphis team record... The Bobcats shot 47.1 percent from the field, the Grizzlies shot 35.6 percent...Memphis was 10-of-22 from behind the arc, while Charlotte shot 3-of-13.
