Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Joe Johnson poured in 30 points and dished out eight assists in Atlanta's 102-92 victory over New York as the Hawks won their home opener at Philips Arena.
Zaza Pachulia added 22 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks, who lost their season opener to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Josh Childress added 12 points and five boards for Atlanta, which shot 47.6 percent from the field.
Eddy Curry scored 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor for the Knicks, who defeated the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday in a thrilling triple overtime contest.
Quentin Richardson netted 19 points and Nate Robinson added 15, all coming in the fourth quarter for New York.
Trailing 10 points at the break, the Knicks outscored the Hawks 29-25 in the third quarter to head into the fourth down 72-66.
Back-to-back layups by Curry and Robinson pulled New York to within 81-77 with about 6 1/2 minutes to play in the contest.
Atlanta answered with a mini 8-3 spurt to increase its lead to 89-80 after Johnson drilled a 15-foot jump shot over a defender with just under four minutes remaining.
"We have a good athletic team that can run," said Johnson. "We are made to get out and run."
A Robinson jumper had the Knicks within five points with just under two minutes left, but a Pachulia layup gave Atlanta some breathing room and New York never got closer than six the rest of the way.
"I thought we got back into the game but we couldn't quite get to some rebounds," said New York head coach Isiah Thomas. "We could have done better but we need to give them credit too. They were energized and put in the extra effort to get the win."
The Hawks outscored the Knicks 26-15 in the second stanza to take a 47-37 lead into halftime. Johnson led Atlanta with nine points in the first half while Childress came off the bench to score eight.
New York had trouble protecting the ball in the first two quarters and turned the ball over 12 times.
Atlanta has defeated New York in the last three meetings at Philips Arena...Hawks rookie Shelden Williams had nine rebounds and two points in over 26 minutes...Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis both had nine points in the loss for the Knicks...New York finished with 17 turnovers.
