(Saturday, December 2nd)

Final Score: Miami 98, Memphis 97

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - James Posey drilled the game-winning three- pointer while falling out of bounds as time expired to lift the defending world champion Miami Heat over the Memphis Grizzlies, 98-97, at FedExForum.

With Miami trailing 96-95, Dwyane Wade dribbled down the left sideline and stepped back for a baseline jumper but came up short. Rudy Gay then converted 1-of-2 from the foul line with 7.3 seconds remaining. The rebound was a loose ball that resulted in a jump ball between Gay and Dorell Wright, which Miami won for the final shot with 1.8 seconds on the clock.

Posey took the inbound pass from Jason Williams and nailed the game-winner falling out of bounds in the left corner with Mike Miller in his face as the buzzer sounded.

Wade scored 23 points for the Heat, who have won three of their last four. Antoine Walker netted 18 points off the bench. Wright scored 14 points and Williams posted 13 points and 14 assists.

Miller posted 22 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have dropped three of four. Gay notched 20 points and seven boards. Chucky Atkins scored 18 points and Hakim Warrick added 17.

Stromile Swift tipped in a missed Gay jumper with 2:22 left in the fourth and Atkins nailed a three-pointer near the top of the key about 35 seconds later to give Memphis a 92-91 lead.

Wade tied it on a free throw six seconds later and Udonis Haslem followed with a foul shot. Atkins then drilled another three with 1:01 on the clock to lift Memphis up by two for the final minute.

Wade answered with a pair of free throws with 49.5 seconds to go to tie the score at 95, and Gay next converted 1-of-2 from the charity stripe for a 96-95 Memphis lead with 21.4 seconds left.

The Heat attained an early advantage, outscoring Memphis 25-20 in the first quarter.

Miami blew the game open on a 24-7 burst capped by a Walker jumper with 5:43 remaining for a 49-27 lead. However, the Grizzlies kept it close. They took off on a 21-8 run to close the stanza sparked by a Warrick dunk with 5:18 left, and trailed 57-48 at halftime.

After a pair of Miami jumpers, Memphis went on a 10-0 run capped by a Gay jumper for an eight-point deficit with 3:06 remaining.

Just as Memphis was creeping toward the lead, the Heat went on a 12-3 surge capped by a Mourning jump hook with 4:06 to go and took a 73-61 lead. The momentum then turned back to Memphis down the stretch, and the Grizzlies trailed 76-71 heading into the final stanza.
