NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Miami
(Thursday, January 26th)
Final Score: Phoenix 107, Miami 98
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Raja Bell scored 22 points to lead Phoenix to a 107-98 victory over Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Steve Nash netted 21 points and 14 assists, while James Jones scored 20 off the bench for Phoenix, which avoided matching its season's longest losing streak of three games.
Bell has scored in double figures in 13 of his last 14 games.
"Raja's playing really well," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He's been good all year but the last 10-12 games he's been unbelievable."
Shawn Marion added 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Boris Diaw had 10 points and six boards for the Suns, who were 13-of-24 from three-point range.
"We had a tremendous balance, especially the way James Jones came in off the bench and shot the lights out and the way Steve [Nash] shared the ball with everyone," Phoenix center Kurt Thomas said.
Dwyane Wade paced the Heat with 25 points, while James Posey and Udonis Haslem scored 16 apiece. Shaquille O'Neal added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Miami, which had a two-game winning streak snapped.
On January 6, Bell scored 24 points to lead a group of seven Phoenix players in double figures, as the Suns scored 47 first-quarter points and trounced the Heat, 111-93, at U.S. Airways Center.
"I really don't have an answer for that team," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We don't have a defensive game for them. I think you need to play them four, five or six times to realize exactly what it is that you need to do to try and stop them. You try and pick your poison with them. They are a very, very unique team. I don't think I have seen anything quite like that in a long time."
Phoenix attained an early advantage, leading 30-20 after Marion scored a layup with two seconds left on the first-quarter.
Nash hit a turnaround jumper with 3:15 to go in the second quarter that sparked a 18-6 Phoenix run to end the half. It was capped on a three by Jones with 11 seconds to go before halftime.
The Suns maintained control throughout the third quarter, leading 90-72 heading into the fourth.
