Final Score: Memphis 100, LA Lakers 99 (OT)
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Damon Stoudamire scored 25 points and dished out nine assists, as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 100-99, in overtime at the Staples Center.
Pau Gasol notched a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Eddie Jones tallied 17 points in the victory.
Mike Miller contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds for Memphis, which has won three of its last four games.
Kobe Bryant exploded for 45 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Devean George netted a season-high 18 points for the Lakers, who have lost three straight games.
Chris Mihm scored 15 points and grabbed 11 boards in the loss.
"It was a disappointing loss tonight," Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said. "We couldn't finish it to its completion."
The Lakers seemed to be in control before Stoudamire made clutch shots late in regulation.
Gasol's tip-in with 3:53 remaining got the Grizzlies within 83-78 and he converted a slam off a backdoor cut moments later to make it a three-point game.
Stoudamire later buried a trey from the left wing to make the score 87-85 with 1:01 to play. Bryant isolated himself against Dahntay Jones and drew the foul with 42.4 seconds left. He drained just 1-of-2 from the charity stripe -- the Lakers made just 3-of-6 from the line down the stretch -- to keep it a one-possession game, 88-85.
The southpaw sharpshooter struck again on the next possession, as Stoudamire made a three-pointer from the top of the circle to tie the game at 88-88 with 28 seconds left.
Neither team could convert on scoring chances in the closing seconds and the game went to overtime.
Stoudamire made a free throw and Miller drained a three from the left wing to give Memphis a 94-90 advantage early in the overtime. Dahntay Jones then picked Bryant's pocket and made two free throws on the other end with 2:42 left.
Bryant netted a step-back trey and made a running jumper in traffic to cut the deficit to 100-97 with 1:05 remaining.
The all-star guard slashed to the basket for two more points to make the score 100-99 with 24 seconds to play and Gasol threw the ball away on Memphis' ensuing possession.
The Lakers had several point-blank looks to win the game, but Bryant's reverse layup and Mihm's jump hook both failed to fall and Memphis held on.
"It was a great game. A great game to be part of," said Miller. "Everyone played hard."
The Lakers held a 54-46 lead at the break behind Bryant's 16 points and maintained a slim 67-66 through three quarters.
