NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Charlotte

(Wednesday, December 28th)

Final Score: Charlotte 93, Chicago 80

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Melvin Ely tied a season high with 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Charlotte past Chicago, 93-80.

Primoz Brezec added 17 points and a season-best 14 boards while Gerald Wallace added 12 points for the Bobcats, who have won four of their last five games. Matt Carroll scored 11 in the win.

"Through these times, we've become close as a team," said Ely. "We try to make teams do things out of the ordinary. We tried to make them speed their game up."

Luol Deng scored 18 points while Darius Songaila netted 12 for the Bulls, who have dropped a season-high five consecutive contests.

Leading by two points after 36 minutes, Charlotte opened the game up in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats began the period on a commanding 14-2 run to take charge. Carroll and Ely both scored four points while Wallace capped the lengthy spurt with a basket near the six-minute mark, making it 79-65.

Chicago got within eight points at 82-74, but Wallace's three-point play moments later stretched the gap to 11 and the Bulls never threatened again.

The Bobcats won the game from the foul line, making 25-of-31 free throws, compared to only 6-of-16 shooting from the charity stripe by the visitors.

"We haven't played well of late," said Chicago head coach Scott Skiles. "It's obvious for anybody to see. In order for us to win an NBA game, we have to play a lot better than we've been playing."

Charlotte led 22-21 after one quarter and the teams went into the locker room deadlocked at 45 apiece. The Bobcats headed into the final period with a slim 65-63 advantage.
