NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Miami
(Tuesday, February 14th)
Final Score: Miami 107, Orlando 93
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade erupted for 38 points and Shaquille O'Neal added 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Miami Heat past Orlando, 107-93, at AmericanAirlines Arena in the front end of a home-and-home.
Antoine Walker went 5-of-8 from the floor for 12 points while Jason Williams and Udonis Haslem donated 10 apiece for Miami, which has won seven of its last nine.
Dwight Howard notched a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards for the Magic, who have lost five in a row and nine of their last 10. Steve Francis, Hedo Turkoglu and Keyon Dooling all chipped in 15 points in the defeat.
"It was tough," Dooling said. "Defensively, we didn't contain Wade or Shaq."
Miami sprinted out to a 32-21 first-quarter lead. Williams provided the exclamation point in the stanza, racing down court and throwing the ball behind his back before sinking a running jumper at the buzzer.
The Magic chipped away and pulled to within 40-36 after Mario Kasun made a layup with 7:23 left in the half.
The Heat turned it back on, however, and took a 61-52 lead into intermission after Walker rolled in a left-handed layup just before time expired.
Miami shot 61 percent in the first half led by Wade and O'Neal, who combined for 39 points on 13-of-18 shooting.
Neither team made much of a move in the third quarter, as Miami finished with a slight 23-22 edge to assume an 84-74 lead, but the Heat pulled away in the fourth.
"They just kept hanging in there and then we finally opened it up in the second half," said Miami head coach Pat Riley.
Wade's bucket 1:05 in set the tone for the frame, and several minutes later Mourning followed Gary Payton's lone field goal with a 1-for-2 trip to the free throw line that made it 92-76.
Orlando moved within 11, 96-85, after Grant Hill stole an inbound pass and finished with just over four minutes left, but the Magic got no closer.
