Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Morris Peterson tallied a season-high 26 points and backcourt mate Mike James scored 28 points and dished out nine assists, as the Toronto Raptors defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 108-102, at Air Canada Centre.
Chris Bosh added 15 points and six boards a day after he torched the Detroit Pistons for a career-high 37 points and Charlie Villanueva contributed 12 points off the bench for Toronto, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Al Harrington led the Hawks with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists and Tyronn Lue contributed 21 points off the bench in the loss.
Joe Johnson tallied 18 points and Salim Stoudamire scored 14 for Atlanta, which has lost two straight and three of its last four games.
The two teams entered the contest with a combined 13-41 record and six rookies.
One of those rookies, Stoudamire, made a youthful mistake on an important possession late in the fourth quarter. Trailing 100-96, Zaza Pachulia drove toward the right elbow and attempted a kick-out pass to an open Stoudamire. The Arizona product looked at the basket before he received the ball causing it to slide through his hands and out of bounds.
Peterson drained two free throws after the turnover to increase the advantage to 102-96, yet Atlanta would not quit. Lue made a layup to trim the deficit to four, but Jalen Rose buried two more free throws to seal the victory.
"Tonight in the end I started feeling tired. I don't know where I got that last burst of energy from," said Peterson of the late-game surge. "I just want to go home and sleep."
The game was tight throughout with the Hawks seemingly taking control early in the fourth quarter.
Atlanta soared to an 89-81 lead courtesy of a 10-2 spurt to begin the fourth period. Johnson scored three of the points and Harrington's jumper capped the run with 8:27 to play.
Several minutes later, James penetrated to the right block and made a bank shot followed by Rose stealing the ensuing inbounds pass and converting a three-point play to make the score 91-89 with 5:52 remaining.
Peterson's pull-up jumper from the left wing put the Raptors in front 96-94 with 2:47 to play and after several failed possessions, Villanueva made a foul line jumper to extend the advantage to four.
Harrington answered with a layup in traffic, but James made two from the charity stripe to push the advantage back to four, 100-96, with just 45 seconds left.
The Raptors led 53-51 at the half and Peterson's jumper at the buzzer tied the game at 79-79 after three quarters.
