Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 43 points and grabbed five rebounds, as the Los Angeles Lakers downed the Seattle SuperSonics, 106-93, at Key Arena.
Kwame Brown scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Lamar Odom chipped in 12 points and 10 boards for the Lakers, who have now won five of their last six games. Smush Parker tallied 10 points and dished out seven assists for LA, which finds itself 2 1/2 games behind Memphis for sixth place in the Western Conference.
Ray Allen scored a team-high 29 points and snatched eight rebounds while Chris Wilcox totaled 16 points and seven rebounds for the Sonics, who have now lost back-to-back games.
The Lakers took their first lead of the game on the heels of a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter on a Parker layup. They extended their lead to 81-73 heading into the final frame as they scored eight of the last 11 points in the quarter.
Luke Walton drilled a trey with 8:02 left to put the Lakers up 12, 89-77. Seattle responded with back-to-back three pointers to get within six, but LA did not let the Sonics get any closer as the lead grew to 14 with 1:38 left on a pair of Bryant free throws.
Seattle jumped to 15-6 lead in opening five minutes of play, as Allen scored seven of the 15 points to give the Sonics a 28-23 advantage after one quarter.
The Sonics led by as many as 12 as Allen drained a three-pointer with 4:20 left in the second quarter. However, the Lakers stayed in the game as they chipped away at the lead and got it down to four by halftime, 56-52, thanks to 19 first-half points from Bryant.
Earl Watson scored 13 points for Seattle...The Sonics turned the ball over 20 times compared with 14 times for the Lakers. Seattle was perfect from the charity stripe, connecting on 14-of-14 while the Lakers hit 18-of-26...LA hit on 46.5 percent of its shots while the Sonics made just 38 percent of theirs.
