Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Pau Gasol scored 33 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, as Memphis held off Charlotte, 102-95, in a game delayed by 90 minutes due to a small fire in the FedExForum,
About 12,000 fans had to be evacuated before the game due to a fire in an elevator shaft. Order was eventually restored and the game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m. (et), began 90 minutes late.
Mike Miller scored 20 points and pulled down seven boards for the Grizzlies, winners of a season-high seven straight games. Lorenzen Wright got Memphis rolling early, scoring all 13 of his points in the first quarter.
Gerald Wallace led the Bobcats with 25 points and seven boards. Kareem Rush scored 21 points off the bench. Kevin Bright tallied 17 points and dished out 16 assists.
Charlotte was without Raymond Felton, who was listed as inactive before the game with an abdominal injury.
Holding on to a three point lead, 94-91, with just over three minutes left, Eddie Jones stole the ball away from Rush and was fouled at the other end of the court.
After Jones converted both free throws, Jumaine Jones missed a jumper for the Bobcats, and Gasol was fouled with 1:05 remaining.
Gasol managed to score one of two free throws to push the lead to six, 97-91. Charlotte had one more chance to get back in the game when Wallace was fouled on the Bobcats' next possession, but Wallace bricked both free throws, killing any chance for a late Charlotte comeback.
Eddie Jones then iced the game by nailing a huge three pointer with 44 seconds remaining to give Memphis a nine-point lead, 100-91.
Wright converted a three-point play with less than three minutes remaining in the first quarter to spark a 9-0 run, giving Memphis a 10-point lead with 43 seconds remaining in the period. Rush, though, dropped in two free throws with four seconds remaining, and the Grizzlies led by eight at the end of the first, 27-19.
The Bobcats battled back in the second quarter, as Wallace made four straight free throws to end the first half, cutting the deficit in half at the break, 47-43.
Rush nailed back-to-back three pointers with 7:25 left in the third quarter to give Charlotte the lead, 55-54, but Miller nailed a trey and a jumper with less than two minutes remaining, and the Grizzlies led by one heading into the fourth, 73-72.
Memphis dominated the boards, outrebounding Charlotte 47-33.
Jones finished with 10 points and five rebounds for the Grizzlies...Memphis shot 46.3 percent from the field, while Charlotte shot 43.6 percent, but just 4-of-14 from beyond the arc...The Grizzlies won despite turning the ball over 17 times.
