NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at LA Lakers

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jason Kidd scored a season-high 35 points, including five in overtime, to lift the New Jersey Nets to a 102-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.
Kidd added 12 assists while Nenad Krstic had 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Nets, who improved to 1-3 on their current five-game road trip.
Kobe Bryant poured in a season-high 46 points for the Lakers, who have dropped three of their last four games. Brian Cook chipped in 14 points in the setback.
In overtime, Kidd hit one free throw to give New Jersey a 96-93 lead with 3:03 left and the margin later grew to seven on his breakaway layup with 1:14 remaining.
The Nets, who never trailed in the game, were never threatened again and posted the six-point win.
"I tried to put as much pressure on their defense as I could," said Kidd. "The big thing was we showed our experience in the oivertime. My job is to get our guys going, and tonight I stepped up to the plate and made some shots."
Los Angeles trailed by nine after three quarters, but rallied in the fourth before finally tying the game at 75-75 on Bryant's three-point play with 5:15 left in regulation.
New Jersey, though, scored three straight points and the Lakers eventually fell behind 87-79 on Kidd's three-point play with 1:57 left in the game.
Los Angeles, though, hung around courtesy of Bryant's sharp-shooting. The All- Star guard trimmed the gap to 87-84 when he buried a three-pointer with 28 seconds left.
After New Jersey's Marc Jackson made 1-of-2 from the foul line, Bryant drained another three, this time with 13 seconds left, to make it 88-87.
The Nets then quickly made it a three-point game courtesy of two foul shots by Kidd, and after Bryant netted a pair from the foul line, Kidd missed 1-of-2 and New Jersey led 91-89 with 12.1 seconds to go.
Lamar Odom then missed a three as time was running out, but Cook got the rebound and put home the game-tying bucket just before the buzzer sounded to send the game into overtime.
"I was pleased with the way this team came back and put it into overtime," said Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. "We just ran out of gas."
New Jersey jumped out to an 8-0 lead and extended the cushion to 15-2 on Kidd's basket with around four minutes left in the first quarter. The Nets eventually led 26-10 after one as Kidd paved the way with nine points.
Los Angeles made just 3-of-20 field goals in the first period.
New Jersey was nearly as bad from the field in the second quarter, going 5- of-21 from the floor.
The Lakers cut the deficit to 26-18 as New Jersey went the first 6:10 of the second without a point. LA got as close as six points in the period, but the Nets led 36-28 at the intermission.
The Nets led 65-56 after 36 minutes.
Kidd made 12-of-15 free throws...Bryant scored at least 40 points for the 43rd time in his career and third this season. He hit 14-of-36 field goals...New Jersey improved to 2-5 on the road this season...The Lakers' 10 first-quarter points and 28 first-half points were both season lows.
