NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Miami
(Friday, November 25th)
Final Score: Dallas 103, Miami 90
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Josh Howard had 25 points, 11 rebounds and sparked a key fourth-quarter run as Dallas continued its winning ways with a 103-90 triumph over Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Dirk Nowitzki added 23 points and eight boards for the Mavs, who have won seven straight games. Marquis Daniels added 14 points and nine rebounds for Dallas, which last lost on November 9 in Philadelphia.
Jason Williams had a season-high 24 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Heat, who have dropped two of their last three games. Dwyane Wade added 23 points for Miami, which got close in the final quarter but couldn't overtake the Mavs.
Miami drew within 76-74 on a Williams bucket early in the fourth quarter, but Dallas answered by scoring 10 straight points during a 15-4 burst that gave the Mavs control. Howard had seven points during the run, which was capped by a Nowitzki three-pointer with just under five minutes remaining for a 91-78 cushion.
Miami had trouble getting back into the game after that. A Udonis Haslem bucket with under two minutes on the clock got Miami to within 98-90, but that would as close as it would get.
"We stayed mentally focused especially on the offensive end," said Howard on the fourth quarter. "We made sure that they only got one shot and we got the rebound. We went down and finished on the other end. We hit some big shots and we hit our free throws at the end which was big."
Haslem ended with 14 points and eight boards for Miami, which had a six-game home winning streak halted. Alonzo Mourning, who continues to fill in for the injured Shaquille O'Neal, had 13 points and six blocks. O'Neal missed his 10th straight game with a sprained ankle. Miami is 6-4 without the All-Star, who is listed as day-to-day.
"I don't think we made the right decisions down the stretch to pull out the win," said Mourning.
Dallas, which has won three straight and nine of 11 from Miami, led 27-22 after one quarter and 57-45 heading into halftime. The Heat, who have lost five of six to the Mavs in Miami, drew within 74-68 heading into the final stanza.
Williams and Wade shot a combine 0-for-7 from three-point range as Miami missed all 11 shots it took from behind the arc.
Prior to the game, Dallas waived Doug Christie so that the guard could retire. Christie has been bothered by a nagging left ankle injury that is not getting any better...Dallas has now beaten all four teams that took part in the conference finals last season (Detroit, Miami, San Antonio and Phoenix)...Dallas has won four straight on the road...Howard has five double- doubles this season...Jason Terry had 10 points and 10 assists and Erick Dampier had 17 points and six boards for Dallas.
