NBA Game Summary - Golden State at Boston
(Monday, December 19th)
Final Score: Boston 109, Golden State 98
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Ricky Davis scored 21 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Boston Celtics over the Golden State Warriors, 109-98, at TD Banknorth Garden.
Paul Pierce added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Celtics, who ended a two-game slide. Mark Blount tallied 17 points and Marcus Banks had 16 for Boston, which won for just the second time in six outings.
"We played great," said Davis. "I think we executed what we needed to execute. I think we moved the ball, one more pass, and that's how we need to win games, continue to move the ball and hit the open guy."
Troy Murphy had 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Golden State, which dropped consecutive games for just the second time this season. Baron Davis added 24 points and nine assists, and Jason Richardson tallied 23 points for the Warriors, who have dropped five of their last seven contests.
With the game tied at 78-78 late in the third quarter, the Celtics put together a run that bridged the final two quarters to go ahead for good. Raef LaFrentz's bucket with 1:45 left in the third started an 11-2 run, which was capped by a Davis basket nearly 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth for an 89-84 Boston cushion. Ryan Gomes' bucket just inside 30 seconds of the third sent the Celtics into the fourth with an 85-80 edge.
Later, the Celtics put together a 10-2 run to put the game away. Davis and Blount had four points apiece during the burst, which turned a 93-88 lead into a 103-90 advantage with 3:36 left.
Golden State, which fell to 1-2 on its current five-game road trip, only got within nine points the rest of the way.
"We just played in spurts," said Davis. "You can't play in spurts on the road and expect to win. You've gotta battle and we didn't really battle. We're tied at 78 and then we scored two and we give up 11 points to them. You have to be as solid as possible when you get the score close on the road and just kind of grind everything out."
Al Jefferson added 13 points and eight rebounds and LaFrentz ended with 10 points for Boston, which trailed 27-26 after one quarter, but rallied to grab a 62-51 lead going into halftime.
