NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at Sacramento

(Wednesday, November 23rd)

Final Score: Sacramento 114, New Jersey 105

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Brad Miller had 20 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds to lead a balanced attack, as the Sacramento Kings defeated the New Jersey Nets, 114-105, at ARCO Arena.

Bonzi Wells had 23 points, nine rebounds and six steals, Mike Bibby chipped in 25 points and Kevin Martin added 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Kings, who stopped a two-game losing streak.

Marc Jackson had 21 points and nine rebounds off the bench and Nenad Krstic chipped in with 19 points for the Nets, who have started out their five-game road trip with two straight losses.

New Jersey was trailing Sacramento 59-58 to start the second half, but the Nets scored the first six points at the start the third quarter. Sacramento kept chipping away and Wells' free throw gave the Kings a 73-72 edge with a little over five minutes to play in the stanza. That started a 22-6 run, as the Kings led 94-78 going into the fourth.

"It was a strange game," said Kings coach Rick Adelman. "In the third quarter we finally seemed to get some energy going. During the whole first half we were letting the Nets run their offense, we were just reacting to what they were going to do. Then in the third quarter, suddenly we went after it and got some steals, got the open court, and the whole thing changed."

Sacramento kept up the pressure in the last 12 minutes and increased its lead to 22 points after Martin drove the lane for a dunk to make the score 100-78 with over 10 minutes to play.

The Nets never got closer than nine points.

"We gave up 35 points in the third quarter," said Nets coach Lawrence Frank. "It's a tie game with 5;40 to go in the third quarter. We had 16 turnovers that led to 26 points. It's very disappointing because this is not the way we're going to play basketball."

Nets guard Vince Carter missed the game with a strained muscle in his back.

The Nets had a 27-26 lead after the first 12 minutes of play on the strength of eight points by Jason Kidd.

Martin completed a three-point play with a free throw to give the Kings a 29-27 lead early in the second quarter. However, the Nets went on a 10-3 run capped off by a Lamond Murray three-pointer with a little over nine minutes remaining to give the Nets a 37-32 lead.

Sacramento inched its way back and took a one-point lead into the locker room thanks to a Martin three-pointer and two free-throws by Miller to end the half.

Miller led all scorers at the half with 15 points and Richard Jefferson led the Nets with 12 points.
