NBA Game Summary - Denver at Detroit

(Wednesday, November 23rd)

Final Score: Detroit 114, Denver 89

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Chauncey Billups poured in 16 points and dished out 11 assists, as the Detroit Pistons pounded the Denver Nuggets, 114-89, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Richard Hamilton added 19 points with six assists for the Pistons, who rebounded from their lone loss of the season, a 37-point rout at Dallas Saturday night, to move to 9-1. Ben Wallace tallied 13 points and 13 boards.

Tayshaun Prince chipped in 12 points and Rasheed Wallace added 11 to go with seven assists.

"We wanted to get back to playing Pistons basketball," said Billups. "We know our best offense is a good defense. We did that tonight. Playing Denver is always a challenge because they're so great in the open court, and it's hard not to get caught up in that style. We got caught up in a game like that in Dallas and you see where it got us."

Marcus Camby led Denver with 15 points and 10 rebounds, as the Nuggets saw a four-game winning streak come to an end. Carmelo Anthony added 12 points in defeat.

"They were fresh and jumped on us early," said Camby. "We felt good coming in, so a lot of credit should go to Detroit. You give a team like that an early lead on their home court and it's tough to come back."

Kenyon Martin returned to action for the Nuggets after missing the last three games with a knee injury and came off the bench to net 10 points.

Denver has now lost ten straight games at Detroit.

The Pistons led most of the game because of hot shooting, as they finished the game at 53.1 percent from the field.

Detroit led 28-23 at the end of the first quarter with Ben Wallace scoring eight points. He was 4-of-4 from the charity stripe and also ripped down six boards.

"This is what we need to do every night -- make up our mind to defend," said Ben Wallace. "Everything comes easy when we do that."

The Pistons grabbed a 13-point lead in the second quarter after Carlos Arroyo raced up the court and made a layup, making the score 38-25 with 9:09 to go in the first half.

Detroit headed into halftime leading 60-43 after outscoring the Nuggets 32-20 in the second quarter. Hamilton led the Pistons with 12 points at the half including a pair of three-pointers.

"They were a team that got beat a few days ago and they came back with a lot of pride," said Denver head coach George Karl. "Maybe we gave in too easy, but they're a very good team. They're better than we are right now."

The Pistons opened the third quarter on a 14-3 run and went up 74-46 with 7:53 remaining in the stanza after Prince hit a jump shot from just inside the three-point line.

Detroit outscored the Nuggets 29-19 in the third, giving them a commanding 89-62 lead heading into the final quarter.
