Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Eddie Jones scored 12 points and slammed home the go-ahead basket on a breakaway with 1:31 remaining, as the Memphis Grizzlies earned a 91-87 victory over the Phoenix Suns at the FedExForum.
Mike Miller had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who snapped a three-game skid and beat the Suns for the fourth time in the last five meetings. Pau Gasol added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Shane Battier tallied 13 points and nine boards for Memphis, which won despite being outrebounded, 60-45.
Eddie House had 21 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Suns, who have dropped four of their last five contests. Shawn Marion totaled 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Boris Diaw had 11 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Kurt Thomas contributed 12 rebounds, while Steve Nash finished with 19 points, seven boards and six assists.
Miller blocked a layup attempt by Marion, and Jones slammed at the other end for an 86-84 Memphis lead.
After Marion missed a jumper, Damon Stoudamire drilled a shot from the left wing with 1:04 left.
Gasol added a free throw with 16.2 seconds left, but Nash pulled the Suns within 89-87 on a three-pointer with 14.1 seconds remaining.
Stoudamire canned two more foul shots to seal Memphis' victory.
Memphis scored the first eight points of the game and led 23-20 after 12 minutes. The Suns rebounded from an 11-point deficit in the second quarter to grab a 49-48 edge at halftime. Phoenix ended the half on an 18-6 run.
The third quarter was tight throughout, with the Grizzlies taking a 69-65 advantage going into the final period. Memphis led by as many as 11 in the last quarter, with two free throws from Miller making the score 81-70 with 7:15 remaining.
However, the Suns got close by scoring the next seven points, with House ending the spurt with a three-pointer and jumper.
The Grizzlies were 3-of-16 from three-point range...Antonio Burks added 12 points and Stoudamire scored 10 for Memphis...Marion was 8-of-25 from the field, while teammate Raja Bell was 3-of-14...The Suns were 12-of-32 from beyond the arc.
