NBA Game Summary - Philadelphia at LA Clippers

(Friday, March 17th)

Final Score: LA Clippers 99, Philadelphia 89

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Elton Brand posted 24 points and 10 rebounds, as the Los Angeles Clippers beat Philadelphia, 99-89, at the Staples Center.

Cuttino Mobley scored 20 points for the Clippers, who have won five of six. Vladimir Radmanovic scored 15 points, and Corey Maggette added 11. Chris Kaman had eight points and 12 boards.

Chris Webber scored 19 points for the 76ers, who lost their third straight. Kyle Korver and Steven Hunter scored 17 points apiece. Andre Iguodala notched 11 points and 10 rebounds, and John Salmons added 10 points and 12 assists.

Philadelphia was once again without All-Star guard Allen Iverson for the third straight game. The Georgetown product was sidelined with a sprain and contusion of the right foot, and is expected to miss the entire swing for Philadelphia.

Iverson, who was injured in last Sunday's 94-91 victory at Memphis, leads the team in scoring (33.2 ppg) and assists (7.4 apg).

A free throw by Maggette with 7:10 left in the game gave LA its largest lead of the game at 92-70. The Sixers responded with a 19-7 run down the stretch, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit.

"They tried to run us from the beginning knowing that we played last night," Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks said. "They did a good job. We did get back into it late, but were never really a threat."

LA closed the first quarter on a 14-7 run, ignited by a turnaround jumper by Brand with 5:18 remaining to lead 27-21 heading into the second, of which the Clippers started with a 10-4 run, boosted 34 seconds in by a Maggette jumper. The Clippers added two points to their lead in the quarter for a 52-44 halftime advantage.

Brand scored a jumper with about 46 seconds left in the third quarter that capped a 15-7 Clippers run to make the score 82-64. With Iguodala's pair of free throws about 12 seconds later, LA outscored Philadelphia by eight in the period for an 82-66 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Clippers recorded 13 blocked shots, compared to just five by the Sixers.

"Defense was the key tonight, Brand said. "We had to protect the paint. We're growing as a team."
