NBA Game Summary - Seattle at Boston
(Wednesday, November 16th)
Final Score: Seattle 113, Boston 100
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Ray Allen scored a game-high 32 points and pulled down seven rebounds, as the Seattle SuperSonics used a big second quarter to down Boston, 113-100, at TD Banknorth Garden.
Rashard Lewis poured in 22 points and Luke Ridnour posted 15 points and 13 assists for the Sonics. Nick Collison chipped in 19 points and 13 rebounds for Seattle, which has won two of its last three. The Sonics snapped a six-game skid in Boston.
"It was a total team effort tonight," Allen said. "I thought everyone played well. I think I was the catalyst out there in the beginning (of the game) and I think everyone fed off of me after that."
Paul Pierce had a team-high 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting for the Celtics, who have dropped two straight by nearly identical scores. They lost 115-100 Tuesday night at Detroit.
Ricky Davis added 21 points and nine assists, while Raef LaFrentz had 14 points.
Leading by just three after the opening frame, the Sonics outscored Boston 32-17 in the second quarter to amass a 63-45 halftime lead. Seattle opened the period on a 10-2 spurt, which was capped by a Lewis alley-oop off a feed from Mateen Cleaves to extend the Sonics to a 41-30 cushion.
Ridnour finished a Reggie Evans feed later in the quarter to up the lead to 17, and Lewis followed with a three-pointer from the baseline on the next trip down the floor to stake Seattle to a 61-41 advantage.
Boston trailed 92-75 after three, but slowly cut into the lead in the fourth quarter and the deficit was whittled to 12 with 3:55 left on a pair of free throws from Ryan Gomes.
Allen, though, was fouled in the act of shooting on Seattle's next possession and sank both attempts from the charity stripe to make it 104-90 and keep the Celtics at arm's length. Boston couldn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
"I thought we were flat, number one. I thought they played great, number two, so you give them credit," said Boston head coach Doc Rivers. "What's embarrassing to me, what I have to do a better job as a coach, we shot the ball 52 percent today, 55 percent (Tuesday) and we have two losses."
Seattle won for fourth time in 14 tries against Boston...The Celtics, who will close a brief two-game homestand against the Toronto Raptors on Friday, are 3-3 in their arena this season...Boston won both matchups with the Sonics last season and has still won eight of the last 11 in the series.
