NBA Game Summary - Utah at Washington

(Monday, January 9th)

Final Score: Utah 97, Washington 89

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Mehmet Okur scored 19 points and gathered 13 rebounds as the Utah Jazz held on to beat the Washington Wizards, 97-89, at the MCI Center.

Andrei Kirilenko added 17 points, seven boards, four assists and four steals for Utah, which has won seven of its last eight contests. Matt Harpring contributed 12 points and Deron Williams had 10 off the bench in the win.

Antawn Jamison poured in a game-high 30 points to lead a second-half rally for the Wizards, who were unable to overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and have now lost five of their last six.

Caron Butler netted 16 points for Washington, while Antonio Daniels finished with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Utah shot 46.5 percent from the floor to Washington's 33.3 percent to build a 47-33 halftime advantage.

Kirilenko and Okur led a balanced Jazz attack with nine points apiece at intermission, while Williams and Harpring each donated five points to pace a reserve squad that outscored their counterpart, 18-3.

Kirilenko netted all of his first-half points in the second frame, helping Utah build its 24-18 first quarter lead to as many as 16 points.

Utah went up by as many as 22 in the third quarter after Devin Brown drained a pair of free throws with 1:51 remaining in the stanza.

Washington scored the last six points of the third, however, to make it 69-53, and worked to trim its deficit further as the fourth quarter wore on.

The Wizards finally got inside double digits with 4:49 left in the game on a Jamison layup, and cut Utah's lead to 83-77 moments later after Butler hit a pair from the stripe. Kirilenko and Milt Palacio, though, answered with back- to-back layups to push the Jazz lead back to 10 and keep Washington at arm's length.
