NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Dallas

(Monday, December 12th)

Final Score: LA Lakers 109, Dallas 106

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant scored 43 points and hit a wild go- ahead three-pointer with 34.9 seconds left to boost the Los Angeles Lakers to a 109-106 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

Bryant hit on 15-of-33 field goal attempts and Lamar Odom totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who have won five of their last six games.

"We're getting much better at being poised and executing our system, even though we may be down five points late in the fourth quarter," Bryant said. "We just stick to doing what we do and just being patient and get good looks and rely on our defense to get big stops."

Luke Walton played just seven minutes for the Lakers, but came up with a huge offensive rebound and two free throws in the closing seconds.

Dirk Nowitzki totaled 27 points and 15 rebounds for the Mavericks, who had their five-game winning streak broken. Marquis Daniels added 23 points and Jason Terry scored 20, but missed a potential tying three-pointer at the buzzer.

"We were just battling uphill all night," said Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson. "We couldn't get anything going. We were lethargic, didn't have any energy, didn't move the ball."

The Lakers have won eight of the last 12 meetings.

Bryant lost control of his dribble with the shot clock running down, but managed to get off a shot from the right wing that swished through the net to give LA a 104-102 lead.

"It was just a broken play," Bryant said. "I was going to pick it up and launch it earlier than that, but the ball kind of got away from me."

After a DeSagana Diop free throw, Bryant hit one foul shot, but missed the second with 18.2 seconds left. However, Walton got the rebound and made two foul shots with 16.5 seconds remaining to make it 107-103.

Devin Harris' three-pointer with 8.5 seconds to go pulled Dallas within one, but Smush Parker countered with two foul shots with 5.6 seconds remaining.

Terry then raced up the floor, but his off-balance three-pointer from the top of the arc hit off the rim. Odom tapped the ball out to end the game, but at the same time hit Nowitzki in the face. Nowitzki remained on the floor for a few minutes before heading to the locker room.

Harris ended with 19 points for the Mavs, while Kwame Brown scored 12 for the Lakers.

The Lakers led 28-27 after one quarter and extended that to 40-29 in the second quarter following a Brown hook shot. That capped 10 straight points by Los Angeles.

Dallas got within 58-56 at the half. The third quarter was tight throughout, although the Mavericks grabbed an 87-82 edge going into the fourth.
