NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Charlotte
(Friday, November 11th)
Final Score: Dallas 98, Charlotte 88
Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki had a game-high 23 points and 16 rebounds for Dallas, which defeated Charlotte 98-88 at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
Nowitzki was questionable after being forced to leave Wednesday's game against Philadelphia with back pain, but logged more minutes than anyone else on the floor (40:17) and showed no ill-effects.
"The back felt a lot better than I thought it would," Nowitzki said.
Devin Harris netted 21 points off the bench while Josh Howard added 12 points and six boards for the Mavericks, who have won two of their last three games.
Reserve Melvin Ely had a team-best 14 points for Charlotte, which has lost three straight. Kareem Rush registered 13 points and eight rebounds, while Emeka Okafor posted 11 points on 4-for-12 shooting.
The Mavericks outscored Charlotte 34-23 in the pivotal third quarter to assume an 81-62 lead. Harris led the way in that frame, pouring in 14 points to pace Dallas.
Charlotte, meanwhile, went into a seven-minute drought between the end of the second and beginning of the third quarter to fall behind. The Bobcats would outscore Dallas 26-17 in the fourth but never seriously threatened.
The game was only tied once and Dallas never trailed in the contest. At one point, the Mavericks' lead ballooned all the way to 21 points.
"We're ashamed that we came on the court like that," Ely said. "We let ourselves down, and we let our fans down."
Perhaps the most telling statistic was points in the paint, where the Mavs held a 32-22 advantage.
Charlotte forward Jumaine Jones did not play because his wife was in labor...The Bobcats' Gerald Wallace did not play because of a chipped bone in his wrist...Keith Van Horn had 16 points in 20-plus minutes for the Mavs...Dallas, which will close a three-game road trip against New Orleans/Oklahoma City on Saturday, is 2-2 away from home this season...The Mavericks took both meetings from the Bobcats last season...Charlotte is 1-3 at home this season.
