NBA Game Summary - Seattle at Sacramento
(Tuesday, April 18th)
Final Score: Sacramento 111, Seattle 105
Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Bonzi Wells totaled 23 points and nine rebounds while Mike Bibby added 21 points, as Sacramento finished its regular season with a 111-105 victory over Seattle at ARCO Arena.
Kenny Thomas posted a double-double with 17 points and a season-high 18 rebounds while Kevin Martin donated 17 points in Sacramento's third straight victory.
Brad Miller and Shareef Abdur-Rahim each sprang for 13 points in the regular- season finale. The Kings will now play the waiting game, as their ultimate playoff seeding is in the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers. If Los Angeles loses on Wednesday versus New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Sacramento will be the seventh seed and play Phoenix in the first round. A Lakers' victory puts Sacramento in the eighth position and sends it to San Antonio for game one of a first-round playoff series.
Ron Artest scored just three points on 1-of-11 shooting, but his play on Tuesday did not demonstrate the difference he has made on both ends of the floor since putting on a Kings jersey. Sacramento is 26-14 since acquiring Artest.
"Now we are going to the playoffs on a positive note and we'll see what happens tomorrow night and prepare for whoever we play," Kings head coach Rick Adelman said.
Ray Allen poured in a game-high 26 points and Luke Ridnour totaled 14 points and a career-high 15 assists for the Sonics, losers in four of their last five contests.
Rashard Lewis and Nick Collison each sprang for 20 points while Collison also grabbed 11 boards in defeat.
"In the second half we kind of dug ourselves into a hole; it wasn't a deep hole but it was enough," said Collison. "Our play early was so bad that we weren't able to win the game."
Trailing 60-54 at the half, Seattle's up-tempo offense went on the attack during the third stanza, scoring 35 points to take an 89-86 advantage.
Seattle took the lead in the stanza for the first time at 69-68 on Lewis' three-pointer with 7:21 left, and opened a seven-point advantage on the heels of a 9-0 burst.
Collison connected on back-to-back jumpers, Lewis buried another three off Ridnour's 14th assist of the night and Collison ran the floor and finished with a driving layup to make the score 81-74 with 3:48 to play in the period.
Martin's three squared the contest at 97-97 with 6:52 remaining in the game, then Abdur-Rahim converted two baskets in the paint to cap a quick 7-0 burst that made the score 101-97.
Seattle tied the game again at 101-101 on a pair of free throws from Collison with 4:24 to play, but just over one minute later Thomas converted a slam to hand the Kings a 105-102 edge.
Wells made 1-of-2 free throws to push the edge to four, then Thomas stole a poor pass from Ridnour and coasted in for a breakaway slam to make the score 108-102 with just 1:59 remaining.
The Kings held on for the much-needed victory from there.
The Kings finished 27-14 this season at ARCO Arena...Seattle has lost seven of its last eight at Sacramento...The Sonics finished 13-28 on the road...Seattle drained 10-of-22 from beyond the arc...The Sonics committed 17 turnovers.
