NBA Game Summary - Dallas at Chicago
(Monday, December 5th)
Final Score: Dallas 102, Chicago 94
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 35 points and sent Chicago's Kirk Hinrich out of the game with a concussion, as Dallas beat the Bulls, 102-94, at the United Center.
Marquis Daniels added 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Mavericks, who defeated the Bulls for the 14th time in the last 15 meetings. Adrian Griffin added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Devin Harris totaled 13 points and 10 assists in Dallas' second straight win.
Keith Van Horn added 13 points for the Mavs, who lost guard Jason Terry at halftime with a sore right hamstring. Dallas outrebounded Chicago, 46-30.
"Fifteen offensive rebounds...when did a Dallas team last do that," said Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson. "We put a lot of emphasis on that this year."
Hinrich left nearly three minutes into the game with a concussion after taking an elbow from Nowitzki, who drove to the basket. Hinrich remained on the floor for several minutes before being helped to the locker room.
"I saw an opening and was driving to the basket," Nowitzki said. "I really don't know what happened as I thought I got fouled. I saw (Tyson) Chandler and that's why I accelerated to the basket. I never saw Hinrich there."
Ben Gordon had 26 points and Luol Deng finished with 25 for the Bulls, who have dropped two in a row, both at home.
"We have yet to get serious about the defensive end and out-play people," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "Until we do that, we are going to be an up and down team. I thought by this point in the season a lot of our guys would learn that lesson, but so far they haven't."
Ahead 97-94 with under a minute left, Harris missed a jumper. However, the Bulls couldn't corral the rebound and DeSagana Diop was fouled, and he made one foul shot with 25.2 seconds to go.
Nowitzki and Daniels each sank two free throws in the closing seconds.
Chicago was ahead 23-22 after one quarter, but Dallas led by as many as seven points in the second before settling for a 53-51 lead at the half.
The Mavericks scored the final seven points of the third quarter to open a 79-71 advantage. Van Horn buried a three-pointer during the spurt.
Dallas led by as many as 10 in the fourth, as Nowitzki's jumper made it 86-76 with 7:21 remaining. However, Chicago pulled within one following a 13-4 spurt, as a three-pointer by Chris Duhon made the score 90-89 with 4:36 left.
