NBA Game Summary - Seattle at LA Clippers

(Sunday, April 16th)

Final Score: Seattle 114, LA Clippers 98

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Ray Allen paved the way with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists, as Seattle comfortably defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 114-98, at Staples Center.

Nick Collison scored 19 points, Luke Ridnour tallied 17 points and dished out seven assists and Rashard Lewis donated 15 points in the victory, as the SuperSonics halted a three-game slide.

"We got off to a good start. We got control of it," said Seattle head coach Bob Hill. "We're still playing to create a foundation. These games are important to us."

Elton Brand led all scorers with 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Shaun Livingston sprang for 18 points off the bench in the loss. Sam Cassell totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, as the Clippers saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end.

With the loss, the Clippers sit one game behind idle Memphis in the race for the fifth seed in the Western Conference playoff race. However, if the Clippers end up as the sixth seed, they will hold homecourt advantage in round one of the playoffs against Denver.

"It's not as tough losing when you already know you are in the playoffs," said Brand. "When you're the sixth seed, it's homecourt advantage and that's important."

Seattle had control of the game from the very beginning, going on a 15-4 run to open a 33-20 edge during the first quarter. The Sonics scored the first seven points of the scoring stretch, with Collison's tip-in making the score 25-16 with 4:38 left. The Kansas product also capped the run with a dunk at the 2:24 mark.

Holding a 38-27 lead after one stanza, the Sonics quickly extended their edge in the early moments of the second period. Allen scored four early points to help push the advantage to 50-32.

The Sonics led 67-51 at the half.

Los Angeles cut the deficit to 71-61 during the third period, as Brand converted a slam off a great look from Cassell with 8:46 left. However, Seattle scored the next 11 points to take complete control.

Allen drained two jumpers during the quick burst and Johan Petro's jumper with 6:06 left increased the lead to 82-61. Seattle held a 98-74 lead after three quarters.

The Sonics led by as many as 30 points before emptying their bench midway through the fourth quarter.
