NBA Game Summary - Utah at Charlotte

(Monday, November 7th)

Final Score: Utah 95, Charlotte 91 (OT)

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Mehmet Okur scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Utah Jazz over the Charlotte Bobcats, 95-91, in overtime at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Okur shot 11-of-17 from the floor and hit a pair of key jumpers in the extra session for the Jazz, who rebounded from their lone loss of the season to improve to 3-1 on the young season.

Andrei Kirilenko added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Utah, which also picked up its first road win in two tries.

Sean May and Primoz Brezec scored 13 points apiece to lead the Bobcats, who have gone to overtime in three of their four games this season, including both games at their new arena. Emeka Okafor added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Charlotte, which had a two-game win streak halted.

After trailing for the entire game and down 79-69 midway through the fourth, the Bobcats came to life and went on a 14-2 run to take their first lead of the game. Keith Bogans scored the first five points of the burst and Brevin Knight capped it with a jumper at the 2:32 mark to give Charlotte the lead, 82-81.

The action went back and forth from there and with the game tied at 85-85 Knight had a chance to win it with the final shot of regulation. However, his runner as time expired bounced out to force overtime.

In the extra stanza, Bogans' bucket a little more than a minute into the session gave the Bobcats an 89-88 lead. However, Charlotte's offense had problems getting much more and Okur took advantage. His short jumper off the glass with 1:50 remaining gave the Jazz a 90-89 edge. Then, after the Bobcats again came up empty, his baseline jumper over May with 54 ticks on the clock secured the game, 92-89, as the Bobcats found the basket just one more time.

"They beat us where men play and that's down inside on the boards," said Charlotte head coach Bernie Bickerstaff. "They wanted the basketball more than we wanted the basketball."

Charlotte had opened its new arena on Saturday night with an overtime win against Boston.

After Utah jumped out early and carried a 19-12 lead through 12 minutes of action, the second quarter saw the Bobcats tighten things up.

Charlotte rallied to draw within 31-30 on a Brezec bucket with less than five minutes to play in the quarter. Knight then tied it for the first time since the opening tip when his basket made it a 35-35 game. However, Utah scored seven of the final 11 points of the frame to go into halftime with a 42-39 edge.

The Jazz gave themselves some breathing room in the third. With the score 47-45, Okur sparked a 9-0 run that gave Utah an 11-point lead, 56-45. Okur had five points during the burst, which was enough to allow the Jazz to coast to the fourth with a 71-62 lead.

Knight ended with 11 points.
