(Wednesday, February 1st)
Final Score: San Antonio 86, Portland 82
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan had 14 points and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, leading San Antonio to an 86-82 win over Portland at the Rose Garden.
Manu Ginobili had 22 points and Tony Parker added 20 for the Spurs, who have won five straight and nine of their last 10.
"I give them a lot of credit. We are fortunate to get out of here with a win," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "They played hard for 48 minutes."
Zach Randolph netted a game-best 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Trail Blazers suffered their second loss in three games. Ruben Patterson contributed 14 points off the bench in the setback.
Portland went in front 52-50 on a Randolph three-point play midway through the third quarter, but the defending-champion Spurs showed their resiliency and carried a 62-55 advantage into the final period.
Randolph gave the Blazers a 71-69 lead with a basket and free throw in succession with about 5 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. However, San Antonio pulled away and later made it 80-75 on a Duncan jumper.
"It's good when you don't play great and still get the win, especially on the road," Ginobili said. "We should be excited, we just won in two tough arenas on the road."
The Trail Blazers cut it to three at 80-77, but would get no closer.
The Spurs led 25-17 after the first 12 minutes of action, but were outscored 22-17 in the second stanza. San Antonio, however, still owned a 42-39 edge at the intermission.
