NBA Game Summary - Indiana at Washington
(Wednesday, March 1)
Final Score: Indiana 99, Washington 93
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson scored 26 points to help lead the Indiana Pacers over the Washington Wizards, 99-93, at the MCI Center.
Peja Stojakovic added 19 points and nine rebounds and Sarunas Jasikevicius had 14 points and a career-high 11 assists for the Pacers, who have won the first two games of their four-game road trip.
"Jackson hit a lot of big shots," said Jasikevicius. "I thought that everyone stepped up. This was a big win for us."
Fred Jones tallied 14 points and six boards and David Harrison had 12 points and nine rebounds for Indiana, which trailed by as many as 14 points and used an 11-2 run in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Gilbert Arenas had 28 points and seven assists to lead Washington, which has dropped two straight since winning three in a row. Antawn Jamison added 20 points and 12 boards for the Wizards, who also had a nine-game home winning streak come to an end.
Washington led for virtually the entire game, extending to a 78-70 lead in the early stages of the fourth quarter after Jamison connected on consecutive buckets.
Indiana, however, rallied. Down 80-74, the Pacers went on a 11-2 run to take their first lead since midway through the first quarter. Jackson's three- pointer with 6:13 left in the fourth gave Indiana an 83-82 edge and Jasikevicius' two free throws with 5:13 remaining ended the surge for an 85-82 advantage.
The Pacers later increased the lead to 91-86 on a pair of Jones free throws with 2 1/2 minutes remaining and the game never became a one-possession affair down the stretch.
"Indiana's coaches took advantage of mismatches and found things that we couldn't deal with on a consistent basis," said Washington head coach Eddie Jordan. "They used the pick-and-roll in the middle of the floor and the isolation off the logo with Jackson."
Antonio Daniels had 11 points for the Wizards, who led 30-22 after one quarter, 53-44 at halftime and 72-66 going into the fourth.
