NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Seattle

(Friday, March 18th)

Final Score: Seattle 98, Orlando 90

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Ray Allen tied a season-high with 38 points and also grabbed seven rebounds, as the Seattle SuperSonics downed the Orlando Magic, 98-90, at KeyArena.

Rashard Lewis posted 13 points and Nick Collison added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Sonics, who have won three of their last four contests. Antonio Daniels rounded out Seattle scorers in double figures with 10 points.

Steve Francis finished with 19 points for the Magic, who have dropped seven straight games. The current skid is one of the reasons Orlando fired head coach Johnny Davis on Thursday. Orlando played its first game under Chris Jent, who is taking over the head coaching duties on an interim basis.

Grant Hill, Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu posted 12 points apiece for the Magic and Jameer Nelson chipped in 11 points in the loss.

The score was tight for the majority of the contest and Seattle held a slim, 73-71 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Sonics finished stronger and picked up the win.

The Magic trailed 85-83 after Francis hit a running jumper in the lane with 4:33 remaining, but Seattle would seal the win with a game-ending 13-7 stretch. Allen scored nine points in the run and hit 6-of-6 free throws in the closing seconds to make it official.

"We needed this win really badly," said Seattle forward Reggie Evans. "We felt like we should've won against Detroit (on Wednesday) but we didn't. Orlando has been losing quite a few games and we did not want to be their first win. It's difficult when a team is hungry like that."

The Sonics held the biggest lead of the first half after a layup by Daniels made it 21-11 with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Magic closed the opening period with 11 unanswered points to take a 22-21 edge after 12 minutes of action.

The teams battled for the lead in the second quarter and it was Seattle that carried a 48-46 edge into the locker room.

Allen led all scorers with 16 points at the break, while Francis paced Orlando with 11.

The third quarter featured more close play and the Sonics would take a 73-71 advantage into the final 12 minutes.
