NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at Utah

(Wednesday, April 13th)

Final Score: Utah 93, San Antonio 91

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Mehmet Okur scored the go-ahead bucket with 2.4 seconds remaining and finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds as Utah defeated San Antonio, 93-91, at the Delta Center.

Matt Harpring tallied 17 points, while Howard Eisley and Gordan Giricek finished with 15 points apiece for the Jazz, who snapped a two-game skid.

"They missed some shots," Jazz head coach Jerry Sloane said. "Their a great team. Any win is a nice win for us."

Manu Ginobili finished with 21 points for the Spurs, who saw their three-game winning streak halted and fell 1 1/2 games behind Phoenix for first place in the Western Conference playoff race. Tim Duncan, who returned from the injured list after missing 12 games, had 17 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes. Tony Parker also netted 17 points in the losing effort.

"I thought he was fantastic," Spurs head coach Greg Popovich said about Duncan. "He ran the floor well. I was concerned about his wind, but his timing and passing were pretty good."

Trailing for the first three quarters, the Spurs scored the first six points of the fourth and claimed a 71-68 advantage. Brent Barry netted two straight buckets as San Antonio grabbed its first lead since 5:52 of the first frame.

Utah answered with an 11-2 surge capped by Harpring's foul-line jumper with just under six minutes left to take a 79-73 lead.

Robert Horry ended the run with a step-back three-pointer on the next possession, bringing the Spurs within 79-76.

The game continued to see-saw back and forth over the next few minutes, until San Antonio went ahead 88-87 on a Parker jumper with 1:30 left to play.

The Jazz jumped back on top, though, on their next possession when Okur hit a 20-foot jumper with just over a minute left.

The Spurs failed to convert on their next trip down and two Harpring free throws made it a three-point contest with 14.3 ticks left on the clock.

Out of the timeout, Ginobili was fouled on his drive to the bucket and hit just 1-of-2 from the free throw line, but Nazr Mohammed grabbed the rebound and slammed it home, tying the game at 91-91 with 7.5 seconds left.

Harpring triggered the ball out of bounds to Giricek who drove to the basket and had his layup attempt blocked by Horry, but Okur was there for the easy put back.

With 2.4 seconds left on the clock, Barry inbounded the ball to Ginobili, who got his man in the air with a pump fake, drove the baseline and put up his running jumper, but it rimmed off as time expired.

"We didn't play good defense," Parker said. "The first quarter really hurt us. It was tough."

Utah led 31-17 after the first 12 minutes and carried a 43-33 lead into the break. San Antonio trailed 68-65 heading into the fourth quarter.
