NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Houston

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Yao Ming scored a team-high 28 points as the Houston Rockets won their fourth straight game and kept Memphis from clinching a playoff berth with a 100-92 victory over the Grizzlies at the Toyota Center.

Yao went 10-of-16 from the field and added nine rebounds and four blocked shots for Houston, which moved within a half game of idle Sacramento for the fifth seed in the Western Conference playoff race. The Rockets hold a one-game lead over seventh-place Denver, which beat New Orleans 116-102 Wednesday.

Tracy McGrady netted 23 points to go along with eight assists and eight boards, while Mike James came off the bench to score 15 points, including a crucial three-pointer in the final minute of play, for the Rockets.

Leading Memphis, which has lost two straight with the chance to clinch a playoff berth, was Mike Miller with a career-high 37 points on 15-of-24 shooting.

The Grizzlies lead Minnesota by three games for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With four games to play, Memphis needs either a victory or a loss by the Timberwolves to secure another trip to the postseason. Minnesota beat Golden State 116-110 Wednesday.

Pau Gasol contributed 20 points, eight boards and four blocks for the Grizzlies, while Lorenzo Wright had nine points and 10 rebounds.

After Houston took a double-digit lead in the first half, Memphis rallied to head into the fourth quarter trailing 69-66. A James Posey three pulled the Grizzlies to within one, but Bob Sura answered with a triple of his own to stretch the Rockets lead to four, 75-71, four minutes into the quarter.

Houston led 81-75 with 5 1/2 minutes to play before Memphis surged to within one point, 85-84, with less than three minutes to play.

The game was decided when James drilled a three-pointer from the corner to give Houston a 96-90 lead with less than a minute on the clock as the Rockets knocked down their free throws to seal it.

The teams traded baskets in a fast-paced first quarter before Brian Cardinal swished a baseline jumper to give Memphis a 26-24 edge after 12 minutes.

The Rockets opened the second quarter on a 16-4 run en route to outscoring the Grizzlies 28-16 in the frame to head into halftime ahead, 52-42.

The Grizzlies clawed to within three, 69-66, heading into the final 12 minutes.

Memphis owns the tiebreaker over Minnesota by winning the season-series, 3-1...This was the fourth and final meeting of the season between these clubs with Houston winning 3-of-4...The Grizzlies have lost eight of their last 10 at Houston...This was the second of a four-game road trip for Memphis, which travels to Denver Friday and San Antonio Saturday...The Grizzlies are looking to secure their second straight playoff berth having appeared in the postseason for the first time in franchise history in 2004.
