NBA Game Summary - Memphis at LA Clippers

(Monday, March 7th)

Final Score: Memphis 105, LA Clippers 102

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Lorenzen Wright scored 23 points and Brian Cardinal added 20 to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 105-102 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

Mike Miller contributed 17 for the Grizzlies, who have won four straight games.

Corey Maggette scored a game-high 37 points in a losing effort. Bobby Simmons added 19 for the Clippers, who have lost three of four.

The Grizzlies played without starters Pau Gasol, Bonzi Wells and Stromile Swift. Gasol, the team's leading scorer, missed his 17th game with an injured foot, Wells sat out his second because of a herniated disc and Swift missed his sixth with a sprained left ankle.

Los Angeles led by five at halftime, but two free throws by Shane Battier gave the Grizzlies the lead for good with just under five minutes left in the third quarter.

Memphis led throughout the fourth quarter, building a 102-89 lead with 2:17 left. The Clippers, though, used an 11-0 run and were down by just two with 23 seconds left.

James Posey gave Memphis a 104-100 lead, but Quinton Ross scored for the Clippers with 7.9 seconds left to cut the Grizzlies' lead to two. Cardinal made 1-of-2 from the line with 5.9 seconds left to give Memphis a 105-102 advantage.

With one final chance to tie, Rick Brunson and Maggette each missed from three-point range as time expired.

"That was great...the way we were able to hang on," said Memphis coach Mike Fratello. "Down the stretch we got a little nervous."

The Grizzlies had a four-point lead after one quarter, but Los Angles managed to move ahead, 50-45, at halftime.
