The Nuggets jumped out to an 11-2 lead and would hold a 31-26 advantage after one quarter of play.

Portland would hold a slim lead on a few occasions in the second quarter with the last time coming after Abdur-Rahim's layup gave the Blazers a 50-49 edge with 3:09 remaining. However, Denver closed the period on a 7-0 stretch to carry a 56-50 cushion into the locker room.

Anthony posted 14 points in the opening half to lead Denver, while Stoudamire also scored 14 to lead the Blazers.
