NBA Game Summary - Denver at Milwaukee

(Friday, January 28th)

Final Score: Denver 106, Milwaukee 100

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony had 25 points as the Denver Nuggets used a huge fourth quarter to score a 106-100 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, in the return of George Karl to the Bradley Center.

Earl Boykins added 17 points and eight assists off the bench for the Nuggets, who scored 24 of the first 28 points in the fourth quarter and ended a three- game skid.

Karl, who was the third winningest coach in Bucks' history, made his debut as the Nuggets head coach. Karl became the 19th head coach in team history Thursday, after taking over for interim coach Michael Cooper. Karl registered his 709th career victory Friday and avoided his 500th career loss in the process.

"There were some boos," said Karl of his return to Milwaukee. "There was some happiness. I know what the streets of Milwaukee say about me. They like me a lot."

Denver won for just the second time in 13 road chances.

Michael Redd netted 26 points for the Bucks, while Dan Gadzuric had 19 points and 14 rebounds en route to the loss.

"Obviously, the fourth quarter was our downfall," said Bucks head coach Terry Porter. "Us not making shots at the basket."

It didn't look good for the Nuggets late, as they trailed this game 80-68 after three quarters. But Denver began the fourth on a 24-4 run to pull ahead 92-84 with 4:49 remaining in regulation.

The Bucks got within 103-100 with 27 seconds left on a Maurice Williams three- pointer. But they would not score after that.

The first half was a tale of two quarters. The Bucks outscored the Nuggets 31-20 in the opening 12 minutes, while Denver came back to win the second 29-19 to pull within 50-49 heading into the intermission.
