NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Boston

(Wednesday, January 19th)

Final Score: Boston 92, Chicago 83

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Al Jefferson had a career-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Paul Pierce poured in 28 points, as Boston snapped Chicago's seven-game winning streak with a 92-83 victory at the FleetCenter.

Raef LaFrentz chipped in 13 points for the Celtics, who won for the third time in four games. Gary Payton added 10 in the win.

Eddy Curry paced the Bulls with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Kirk Hinrich tallied 12 points and dished out six assists in a losing effort. Chicago's last defeat came January 3 against Detroit.

"We couldn't make our shots tonight," said Chicago head coach Scott Skiles. "We didn't play poorly. We just had trouble putting the ball in."

Trailing in the third, the Bulls used a 15-3 burst to surge ahead, 62-55. Hinrich and Chris Duhon each knocked down a three during the spurt. Duhon ended with seven points and seven assists.

The Celtics battled back to get within 69-68 at the end of the third quarter behind LaFrentz, who came up with six of his 13 points in the frame.

Boston finally grabbed the lead in the fourth, using a 12-6 run to go up 76-75 after Jefferson knocked down a pair of free throw attempts. Two possessions later, Payton pushed the Celtics' lead to three with a driving layup.

Jefferson's jumper as the shot clock expired gave Boston its largest lead of the game, 84-77, with 5:05 remaining.

"It felt good," Jefferson stated. "We had to come in and break that winning streak. "We should have beaten them last time we played and tonight we proved it."

The Bulls managed to cut the Celtics lead to four, but a late jumper by Pierce sealed the win for Boston.

Despite being saddled with two fouls in the first quarter, Curry tallied nine points in the opening stanza as the two clubs were tied after one, 28-28.

Pierce led all scorers in the first half with 20 points, including 13 in the second quarter, to help Boston claim a 50-47 advantage at the half.
