NBA Game Summary - Portland at Minnesota

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Latrell Sprewell poured in 25 points, while Kevin Garnett scored 17 and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Minnesota over Portland, 92-84 at the Target Center.
Troy Hudson and Wally Szczerbiak combined to score 26 points off the bench for the Timberwolves, who won for the second straight time.
Ruben Patterson scored 25 points and Nick Van Exel added 19 with eight assists for Portland, which lost its seventh contest in eight tries.
Minnesota came out in the third quarter and scored the first seven points to jump ahead, 51-44. Portland didn't get a field goal until the 8:19 mark when Van Exel knocked down a two-point bucket.
The Trail Blazers stormed back, though, to make it a four-point spread, 67-63 heading into the fourth.
Damon Stoudamire nailed a three-pointer at 7:51 of the final stanza to trim the Minnesota lead, 73-72.
Stoudamire, who scored a career-high 54 points on Friday, finished the contest with 18, six rebounds and four assists.
After the two clubs traded baskets for the next three minutes, Hudson and Garnett put the Timberwolves up for good. Hudson connected on a three-pointer, while Garnett followed on the next Minnesota possession with a lay-in to make it 88-80.
"I try to play hard every night," Sprewell stated. "It feels good to knock down shots finally."
Portland connected on 5-of-6 from beyond the arc to lead, 25-20, after the first quarter. Van Exel netted nine in the opening stanza.
"It's a tough situation when we've been working so hard," Van Exel explained. "We have been coming up on the short end of the stick, but we shouldn't get discouraged or get down about the situation."
Szczerbiak helped Minnesota get back in the game in the second, scoring seven points in the frame as the two clubs went into the half knotted at 44-44.
Eddie Griffin pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds for the Timberwolves.
Sprewell finished the game 9-of-17 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. He ranks 23rd all-time in three-point field goals made...Portland fell to 0-2 against Minnesota this season...The Timberwolves outrebounded the Trail Blazers 44-32 for the game.
