NBA Game Summary - Denver at Cleveland

(Friday, February 11th)

Final Score: Denver 106, Cleveland 101

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Earl Boykins scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half and dished out eight assists to lead the Denver Nuggets to a 106-101 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gund Arena.

"It's great to come home and play well," said Boykins, a Cleveland native. "I had a lot of family and friends here and I enjoy playing in Cleveland."

Kenyon Martin added 19 for Denver, which has won six of its eight games since George Karl took over the coaching duties. Karl replaced interim coach Michael Cooper, who compiled a 4-10 mark after taking over for Jeff Bzdelik in December.

LeBron James scored a game-high 35 points for the Cavaliers, who have lost three of their last five games.

With the game tied at 85-85 in the fourth quarter, Denver scored eight straight points to take the lead for good. During the run, Boykins made a steal and then fed Martin for a fastbreak dunk to give Denver a six-point advantage. Martin's two free throws with 5:54 remaining gave the Nuggets a 93-85 lead.

The Cavaliers pulled within four, 99-95, after a three-point play by James with three minutes to play in the game, but Andre Miller buried a tough jumper to give Denver a six-point lead with just over two minutes left.

James again cut the Nuggets lead to four at 103-99 with a jumper, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas went to the line with 20 seconds left after grabbing an offensive rebound. Ilgauskas made both from the stripe to make it a two-point game.

Miller made two free throws with 16.9 left and Greg Buckner added one as the Nuggets finished by making 9-of-10 from the line to seal the victory.

Cleveland led by 12 in the first half and took a 56-46 lead into the locker room.

The Nuggets used a nine-point run in the third quarter to take the lead. Trailing 76-70, Boykins scored to spark the run and then made two free throws early in the final frame to give Denver a 79-76 advantage.
