NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Dallas

(Tuesday, February 8th)

Final Score: Chicago 107, Dallas 100

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Rookie Luol Deng set career highs with 30 points and 11 rebounds and Eddy Curry added 23 points, as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 107-100, at AmericanAirlines Center.

Ben Gordon added 16 points for the Bulls, who halted a three-game losing streak and won for the sixth time in nine games. Chicago also defeated the Mavericks for the first time since December 29, 1997, ending a string of 13 straight losses to Dallas.

Kirk Hinrich collected 12 points, six rebounds and six assists in the win, while Othella Harrington netted 10 points.

"We played very hard," Bulls head coach Scott Skiles said. "We've had 10 days or so where we haven't played as well as we did before that. Tonight, I thought we played with a lot of energy and I was very happy with the win."

Dirk Nowitzki posted 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have dropped two of their last three contests. Jason Terry chipped in 25 points in the loss, while Michael Finley added 16.

Dallas head coach Don Nelson was back on the bench after missing the previous 10 games due to shoulder surgery.

The teams were knotted at 73-73 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the final period belonged to the Bulls. The game was still tight at 79-78 around the nine-minute mark of the fourth, but Chicago scored nine of the next 11 points to take control of the contest. Hinrich made the big shot of the run, as he capped the stretch with a three-pointer to make it 88-80 with 5:22 left.

The closest Dallas would get was when Terry's trey cut the deficit to 98-94 with 1:06 remaining. However, Hinrich hit a long jumper at the other end to make it 100-94 with 48 seconds left and seal the win.

The first half was close throughout with no team holding larger than a four- point lead. The Mavericks held a 23-21 advantage after one quarter of play and were ahead 50-48 at halftime.

Nowitzki led all scorers at the break with 19 points, while Deng paced the Bulls with 15 first-half points.

The Mavs were able to grab a 60-54 lead after Josh Howard's long jumper with 7:28 remaining in the third quarter, but Chicago responded with a 14-6 stretch to take a 68-66 advantage with 2:24 left. Dallas would regain the lead briefly, but Gordon hit a three-pointer with 9/10ths of a second left to even the score at 73-73 heading into the final 12 minutes.
