Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Peja Stojakovic led six players in double figures with 27 points, as the Sacramento Kings downed the Denver Nuggets, 109-100, at ARCO Arena.
Mike Bibby scored 18 points and Kevin Martin netted 17 for the Kings, who have won five of their last seven games overall. Maurice Evans totaled 14 points while Darius Songaila and Brad Miller each added 12 in the victory.
Kenyon Martin led the Nuggets with 17 points and nine rebounds. Andre Miller and Carmelo Anthony both contributed 16 points for Denver, which suffered its fifth straight loss.``It's the same old story with all the games we've lost,'' said Martin,``I'm fed up with it, fed up.''
Following a tight first half, the Kings took a 56-52 lead into the third quarter. Through the first five-plus minutes of the second half, Sacramento extended its lead to 14, 68-54, with a 12-0 run.
After Martin's bucket brought the Nuggets within two to start the scoring, the Kings rattled off 12 straight points. Stojakovic started with a pair of free throws, Songaila added six points and Brad Miller capped the run with a jumper for the 14-point edge.
However, Denver fought back through the end of the third quarter and into the fourth before eventually taking the lead with just over seven minutes left in regulation on a layup by Andre Miller, 89-87. The visitors used two different 7-2 runs and played tough defense to get back in the game.
Stojakovic's three-pointer under a minute later gave the Kings a 92-89 lead and shortly after, his baseline jumper from a tough angle increased the advantage to six, 96-90.
With 3:45 to go in regulation, Marcus Camby hit a pair of foul shots to bring the Nuggets back within three, 97-94, but that was as close as Denver would get. A reverse layup by Evans was part of a 7-0 run that put the game away and several foul shots down the stretch sealed the victory.
Sacramento has captured 12 of the last 14 meetings with the Nuggets, who have dropped 17 straight contests at ARCO. The last Denver victory here was January 7, 1997...Denver, which won the battle on the glass 47-42, fell to 4-12 on the road this season and has dropped seven straight road tilts...The Kings improved to 13-4 at home.
