NBA Game Summary - Boston at Chicago

(Saturday, January 8th)

Final Score: Chicago 102, Boston 91

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Kirk Hinrich netted 22 points and tied a career-high with 14 assists to propel Chicago to its third straight victory, a 102-91 decision over Boston at the United Center.

Othella Harrington, subbing for an injured Antonio Davis, contributed 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting along with 10 rebounds for the surging Bulls, who have won nine of their last 12 games. Luol Deng also scored 19 points in the triumph.

"Chicago was great," said Boston head coach Doc Rivers. "They're playing the game the right way. They came out with great effort and played great defense. Some day I hope we do that in Boston."

Paul Pierce compiled 20 points and seven rebounds for the Celtics, who have lost six straight on the road and two in a row overall. Tony Allen and Gary Payton recorded 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the setback.

Boston had a 45-37 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half and was up by seven before Hinrich capped a 9-0 run with a three-pointer which put the Bulls ahead 51-49 1:31 before intermission. A three-point play by Pierce would send the Celtics back on top, but Chicago ended the period with a 7-0 spurt and went into the locker room with a 58-52 edge after Hinrich's tip-in near the buzzer.

The Celtics got to within a pair early in the second half before the Bulls reeled off 13 consecutive points to take control. Hinrich registered eight points during the flurry, which ended on Eddy Curry's dunk midway through the third quarter, giving Chicago a commanding 73-58 advantage.

"What I love about Kirk is that he doesn't force anything," said Rivers. "I really enjoy watching him play -- but not so much tonight."

Boston would close the gap to seven points when Ricky Davis threw down a slam with 4:22 remaining to make the score 92-85. A dunk by Harrington followed by Hinrich's three-point play extended the margin to 12 points a minute later.

Chicago put the game away when Eric Piatkowski buried a shot from beyond the arc with 1:42 to play, putting the hosts on top 100-87.
