Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Pau Gasol scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Memphis over Boston, 117-109, at FedExForum.
Bonzi Wells added 18 points in 18 minutes off the bench for the Grizzlies, who have won back-to-back games on the heels of a two-game slide.
Raef LaFrentz netted a game-high 28 points for the Celtics, who dropped their third in a row. Paul Pierce totaled 18 points and seven assists in the losing effort.
Boston led by double-digits entering the fourth, but Memphis started the final frame on an 18-3 run and they never looked back. Earl Watson capped off the burst on a three-pointer with 6:39 left to give the Grizzlies a 101-97 edge.
"We played 35 good minutes. Unfortunately, it's not a 35-minute game," Boston coach Doc Rivers said.
Boston hurt itself, turning the ball over 18 times.
The Celtics ended the first quarter on a 15-5 run to take a 38-29 lead into the second.
Each team posted 27 points in the second as Boston led 65-56 at the intermission.
"I thought that we played bad defense in the first half and nothing went right," said Memphis coach Mike Fratello. "Then we made that run in the fourth quarter just when things were looking bad."
The Celtics also won the third quarter, increasing their edge to 94-83 after 36 minutes of play.
Boston fell to 7-8 during the month of December...It was the fourth straight road loss for the Celtics, who are 7-6 as the visiting team this season...The Grizzlies are 8-10 all-time against the Celtics...Memphis and the Celtics played a pair of games last season with each team winning on the road.
