NBA Game Summary - Boston at Orlando

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Paul Pierce scored 24 points with eight rebounds, leading seven Boston players in double figures as the Celtics rolled to a 117-101 victory over the Orlando Magic at TD Waterhouse Centre.

Marcus Banks collected 20 points for the Celtics, who snapped a four-game slide. Al Jefferson added 16 points, Raef LaFrentz scored 14, Ricky Davis had 13, Gary Payton posted 11 and Jiri Welsch chipped in 10 in the win.

"Great win for us because we broke the losing streak we were on and our guys needed a win like this," Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said.

Hedo Turkoglu led the Magic with 18 points off the bench. Steve Francis and Kelvin Cato added 14 points apiece for Orlando, which had a two-game win streak halted. Cato also collected a game-high 12 rebounds.

Boston jumped out to a 37-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, hitting 16 of its first 25 shots to start the game. Pierce had 11 points in the period, including seven during a 22-6 run that gave the Celtics a 23-10 advantage midway through the stanza.

The Celtics scored 22 of their 37 first-quarter points on either dunks or layups.

"It's tough for players to watch, fans, anybody to watch," Francis said about the first quarter. "Sometimes we were contesting, but a lot of times it was just [their] pure athletic ability."

Orlando was never closer than 16 points in the second quarter, while the Celtics led by as many as 27 points when LaFrentz's layup made it 60-33 inside the 6:00 mark.

Boston carried a 69-45 cushion into halftime behind 59 percent shooting and 14 points from Pierce. LaFrentz added 12 points for the Celtics, and Turkoglu scored 11 to lead the Magic. Orlando shot just 35 percent in the half.

The Magic trimmed their deficit to 15 points late in the third quarter, but it reached 20 moments and Boston headed into the fourth leading 94-78.

Orlando never got closer than 12 points in the final quarter as the Celtics ran away with it. The Magic shot just 39 percent in the game, and made only one of their 12 three-point attempts. Boston shot 47 percent.

Game Notes

Orlando rookie Dwight Howard scored 10 with 10 rebounds in the loss...The Celtics said rookie guard Delonte West will miss an indefinite amount of time with a broken right hand he suffered during a loss at Miami on Sunday. Jameer Nelson, West's teammate at Saint Joseph's the last three years and current Magic guard, scored just four points in 21 minutes...Orlando was playing the second of a three-game homestand...Boston won three of its four games with the Magic last season.
